Jan Baughman

Jan began drawing at an early age. During his teens, he began focusing on a career in commercial art. After a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force, he attended the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho and earned an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. He then transferred to Boise State University in Boise, Idaho where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design.

After graduating from Boise State University, Jan enjoyed a lengthy career as a graphic designer. During this time, he worked as a production artist, graphic designer, webmaster, and illustrator in a variety of industries.

Jan continued his career in graphic design but created fine artwork in his spare time. Over time, Jan began to focus on nature as his subject. He enjoyed painting animals and flowers in their natural settings.

Jan began looking to the 19th century painting masters for inspiration. Masters such as William Bouguereau, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Lord Frederick Leighton and the American Hudson River School painters Thomas Cole, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt gave Jan the motivation he needed.

In his work, Jan strives to create images with an idealized representation of nature. His work is realistic and his goal is to leave the viewer with a sense of awe at the beauty and splendor that can be found in nature.

Today, Jan lives near Boise, Idaho with his wife and children.
